The story
Rossmoyne's name has a somewhat romantic origin — land developer V.W. Webb coined it in 1937 after a family trip to Scotland, deciding the Scottish-sounding name would be well-suited to marketing a new riverside estate.
The area was previously known as West Riverton, and it wasn't officially gazetted as a suburb until 1960. Development accelerated through the 1960s, a period that also saw the opening of Rossmoyne Primary School (1964) and the famous Rossmoyne Senior High School (1968).
A notable chapter in its history was the Pallottine Mission on Fifth Avenue, which from 1959 to 1991 provided boarding for over 900 Indigenous students from the Kimberley and other country areas attending Perth schools.

The verdict: Rossmoyne punches above its size. A suburb of only 1.6 km² and ~3,600 people, it carries a reputation far exceeding its footprint driven by one of the state's top public schools, a genuinely beautiful river foreshore, and tightly held housing stock that keeps the neighbourhood quiet and stable. It suits families prioritising schooling and outdoor lifestyle over urban buzz, and are willing to pay a premium for it. Properties move fast when they do come up.
